Summary
The Ghost Cat, also known as Maomolin, resides within a large bell he wears around his neck and possesses a miniature replica that serves as a key to his romantic pursuits. Whoever holds this smaller bell is automatically designated as his fiancée. Although Shampoo initially possessed the bell, she rejected the Ghost Cat entirely. Upon discovering that Ranma was Shampoo’s true fiancé, the Ghost Cat shifted his attention to tormenting Ranma. However, Ranma’s intense fear of cats triggered his transformation into Cat-fu, allowing him to easily defeat the spirit. Realizing he was no match for Ranma, the Ghost Cat decided to seek a bride elsewhere. He returned on New Year’s Eve 1991 to claim Shampoo as his bride, transporting her to the Cat Temple and sealing her inside. Upon her release, Shampoo immediately transformed into her cat form. The only way to break this curse is through a kiss from Ranma, a remedy that must be administered before the 108 New Year’s bells toll, after which the transformation would become permanent.
