Summary
Known simply as Captain by his comrades, he is a mercenary contracted by the Extra Order Company, a private security firm hired by Kageyama of Asahi Heavy Industries. His primary objective is to eliminate the Lagoon Company and their hostage, Rock, largely due to the computer disc Rock was carrying when captured. A veteran of the 1990s Liberian Civil War, Captain is a seasoned soldier who feels no hesitation about killing his targets. He is also a thrill-seeker who constantly looks for a worthy opponent, a trait that ultimately leads to his downfall. During the initial assault on the Yellow Flag Bar, Captain and his team launched an attack from the exterior, killing most of the patrons. However, they underestimated the counterattack from Revy, Dutch, and an enraged Bao, who was furious about the damage to his bar and the Lagoon Company’s responsibility for repairs and restocking. This retaliation resulted in the deaths of sixteen mercenaries and injuries to eight. Impressed by the Lagoon Company’s combat prowess, Captain eagerly anticipated another confrontation. Later, acting as the gunner on a modified Soviet-era Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunship, he pursued the Black Lagoon into a river dead-end, waiting for them to return so he could kill them. He failed to anticipate Rock’s risky plan to save his captors. During the engagement, the Black Lagoon used the sunken hulk of an old warship as a ramp to launch their vessel into the air, positioning it directly in front of the gunship. As Dutch piloted the PT boat, he launched two torpedoes at the aircraft. One torpedo struck Captain squarely in the face, causing the gunship to crash and killing him.
