Summary
Tomoe Yukishiro was the eldest child of a samurai father who held a low-ranking bureaucratic position serving the Tokugawa Shogunate in Edo. Following the death of her mother shortly after his birth, her younger brother Enishi regarded her as a surrogate parent. Consistent with the requirements imposed by the Shogunate, Tomoe practiced Buddhism. She maintained diaries to document her internal thoughts and feelings, as she struggled to express these emotions more openly.
