Summary
M2, whose real name is Kai, is one of the three members of Team Ichigaki alongside M1 and M3 during the Dark Tournament. Along with his teammates Yen and Ryo, Kai was trained in martial arts by their master, Mitamura, since childhood. When Dr. Ichigaki poisoned Mitamura, the trio surrendered their freedom in exchange for his healing. As payment, Ichigaki implanted Blood-Slaver Nodes on their backs, devices that can only be removed by killing the host, which placed them under his absolute control while drastically boosting their physical strength. Although their souls were trapped and helpless, they retained some agency, such as the ability to communicate with Kuwabara through dreams to reveal their tragic history. All three desired freedom above all else, even if it meant death. Kai and Ryo possess attacks that are invisible to those lacking sufficient spirit training, a tactic that complements M1’s use of visible attacks to distract opponents. They fight with extreme efficiency, coordinating their movements to cover one another and keep enemies on the defensive. During the preliminary rounds, Team Ichigaki remained undefeated, casually eliminating an opponent who attempted to assassinate them. The following day, they contacted the sleeping Kuwabara to explain their enslavement. In the main tournament, they faced Team Urameshi, consisting of Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Genkai. Initially, Yusuke and Kuwabara could not perceive their invisible strikes, allowing the team to neutralize Kuwabara. However, Yusuke’s rage at Ichigaki enabled him to see through their techniques and land successful hits. Genkai then employed a special technique that empowered their souls to choose purity over corruption, allowing them to remove the Nodes without dying. This victory secured the match for Team Urameshi. Despite initial hesitation about facing Mitamura, Genkai explained that their master had forgiven them. Kai even tried to join Team Urameshi to make amends, though tournament regulations prevented it. Ultimately, Kai, his teammates, and Mitamura survived the tournament unharmed.
