Usui, Naohiro

Usui, Naohiro

Summary

Upon his initial appearance, Usui presents himself as an authoritarian and rigid figure who demands absolute compliance. He is known for being intolerant and pushy, notably evicting Yako and Neuro from crime scenes to ensure the police department receives full credit for solving cases. His harsh treatment of Sasazuka stems from a lingering grudge related to a past incident, while his disdain for Higuchi is rooted in the latter’s irresponsible and relaxed attitude. Beneath this stern exterior, however, Usui is a highly responsible and dependable leader. He holds the police force in high esteem and possesses the charisma to inspire his entire unit with a single speech. Sicks recognizes Usui’s unique competence, describing him not as exceptional in a conventional sense, but as someone who naturally rises to the top during crises. Following the Histerrier case, Usui’s demeanor shifts; he begins to trust Yako and Neuro, providing Yako with food during the HAL arc and deferring to Neuro regarding Kasai’s location. Privately, Usui has a fondness for cute items such as stuffed animals and flowers, often blushing when the topic arises. He also has a sweet tooth, reacting with irritation when Sasazuka serves him sugarless black coffee. In a supplementary comic, the author notes that a Mini would be the most fitting vehicle for him.
