Nougami, Neuro

Nougami, Neuro

Summary

Neuro, the titular demon detective of Hell, traverses the labyrinthine minds of humans to feed on mysteries. He sustains himself by dismantling these enigmatic puzzles, stripping criminals of their defenses to release the negative energy that drove their crimes, which he then consumes. Seeking the Ultimate Mystery, as the enigmas in Hell had become monotonous, Neuro arrived in the human world and coerced Yako into becoming his assistant to solve cases. He is a self-centered, sadistic, and arrogant figure who largely ignores the human element of investigations, prioritizing speed and efficiency. This approach often hinders his ability to understand culprit motives. He frequently employs blackmail and manipulation, viewing Yako as little more than a slave and enjoying her abuse. However, his attitude has shifted slightly; he has saved her from explosions, offered crude comfort after the Hal arc, and expressed satisfaction at her struggle to find her potential. He expects much from her, showing pride and disappointment in equal measure. Publicly, Neuro lets Yako pose as the detective while he performs the actual investigation. Despite being a demon, he requires sleep, particularly near hot springs, which form from excess Shouki, a substance he likens to oxygen. His true form resembles a horned bird, often revealed when feeding. In the manga, he disassembles objects like cars and bombs to understand their mechanics, not just crimes. Initially appearing invincible against human weapons, he has since sustained injuries, attributing this to the lower Shouki levels in the human world and adapting to its laws of physics. His monstrous endurance still allows him to survive fatal wounds and defeat powerful foes like X.
