Summary
Before her death, Tsubaki served as a young miko in training, mirroring the role Kikyo held at the time. She trained under a priest at a Shinto shrine, where she and Kikyo were fierce rivals. Although they occasionally fought side by side to vanquish youkai, Tsubaki constantly sought to surpass Kikyo by relying on her own holy power. While Kikyo and Kaede traveled through the countryside to aid small villages and defeat demons, Tsubaki betrayed them by placing a curse on Kikyo. She declared that a miko must remain heartless, warning that falling in love with a man would strip her of her holy powers and lead to an untimely death. Kikyo responded to this threat with a cool denial.
