Sesshoumaru's Mother

Summary

The mother of Sesshomaru, a formidable dog demon, first appeared in the 466th chapter of the InuYasha manga and later in the ninth episode of InuYasha: The Final Act. Like her late husband, the Inu no Taishou, she is an inuyoukai capable of shifting between a human-like form and a massive dog demon shape. As the consort of the Lord of the Western Lands, she holds the title of Lady of the Western Lands and possesses the Meidou Stone, a gift from her husband. He instructed her to use the artifact if Sesshomaru arrived, warning that while it would place him in grave danger, she must not succumb to fear or sorrow, a directive that served as another test for their son. Her demeanor mirrors Sesshomaru’s coldness but includes a playful edge, likely influencing his early interactions with humans. She casually questions whether he intends to eat Rin and Kohaku when he protects them. During Sesshomaru’s trial within the Meidou Stone, she displays detached concern for his survival and mild annoyance when he rejects her offer of escape, remarking that he lacks the charm of his father. Despite this aloofness, she cares for her son’s welfare, resurrecting Rin with the Meidou-Seki after witnessing Sesshomaru’s distress over her death. She also checks with Jaken to see if Sesshomaru finds happiness with Rin returned. Though a powerful daiyoukai, she is kind-hearted and criticizes Sesshomaru for trying to turn the Tenseiga into a weapon of destruction rather than healing. She emphasizes that the sword requires a wielder with compassion, love, and a pure heart, suggesting she still holds deep feelings for her late mate and harbors no grudges against him. She resides in a grand castle.
