Protocol Ryugu Launches Full Japanese Serialization in Young Magazine

Daisaku Tsuru's Protocol Ryugu has finally arrived in its home market. The ocean sci-fi tale, which first appeared in a special English edition of Weekly Young Magazine, kicked off its proper Japanese serialization in the July issue of Monthly Young Magazine on June 18, with chapters updating Saturdays on YanMaga Web.
Set in a near-future Earth gripped by an ice age after a devastating world war, the story follows surface survivors and sea-adapted humans locked in conflict. Control of a mysterious UFO promises dominance over the frozen planet, and young protagonist Franz carries a crucial mission amid the chaos.
Tsuru, known for earlier works like nacuN and Mushinuyun, delivers unpredictable high-stakes action and world-building in full color for the opening chapter. Kodansha's K Manga platform simultaneously launched the English simulpub, giving global readers day-and-date access.
The debut marks an exciting expansion for the seinen magazine lineup and a major step for a project that began as an international experiment. Fans can read the first chapter for free on both YanMaga Web and K Manga.
