Pierrot Studio Locks Black Clover Season 2 for October with Tanemura Directing

Studio Pierrot is taking the reins once again for Black Clover's highly anticipated return. The veteran animation house behind the original series has locked in October 2026 as the premiere window for Season 2, ending a five-plus year wait since the first season concluded in 2021.
Ayataka Tanemura will direct the new season. He previously directed the 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King and took charge of several of the original run's strongest late episodes. His involvement signals continuity and a focus on delivering the high-stakes action and character moments fans loved.
The news broke alongside a striking new illustration by Tanemura in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #29, featuring Asta in Devil Union form. The director included a personal message expressing his excitement at reuniting with the cast and crew. Episode 1 is also slated for an early world premiere screening at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles.
For Pierrot, the project marks a major production commitment to one of its flagship shonen titles. With staff familiar with the series now guiding the effort, the upcoming season is poised to bring fresh energy to Asta and Yuno's rivalry and the broader magic world.
