Mii-chan and Miss Yamada Closes Its Two-Year Run With Volume 7

Kodansha confirmed over the weekend that Nene Azuki's Mii-chan and Miss Yamada has reached its last page. Magazine Pocket carried chapter 37, titled "Yamada-san and Mii-chan," closing a web serialization that launched in September 2024. The seventh collected volume — the book that ends the set — arrives in Japan on September 9, in a regular edition and a deluxe version packing a 24-page full-color picture book Azuki drew for the send-off.

Azuki's drama spends a year in 2012 Kabukicho, where hostess and university student Yamada is pulled toward Mii-chan, a newcomer whose drive outruns her ability to read the room. Cute linework over a grim nightlife story made the title a social-media phenomenon; print-plus-digital circulation has now cleared three million copies. It ranked fourth for male readers in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026 and was nominated in the general category of the 50th Kodansha Manga Awards.

The same September 9 street date also brings the first compiled volume of Magapoke spin-off Shinjuku Kaishouroku Tenchou. English readers are already on the calendar: Seven Seas Entertainment will publish volume 1 on December 8.

A television anime remains locked for 2027, announced last month while the manga was already sprinting to its planned finish. The books are done; the next question is how that year in Shinjuku looks on screen.
