Kodansha MagaPoke Nets Hashimoto’s Spider Romance for Sept. 11

Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app has locked a firm start date for Shinikake Shōjo to Kumo Ōji (The Girl on the Brink of Death and the Spider Prince), the new original series from Cagaster creator Kachō Hashimoto. Weekly chapters begin Friday, September 11, giving the quirky pair a permanent home after a year of character sketches and short previews online.

Hashimoto confirmed the MagaPoke deal herself, and the title already has an official X account posting production updates ahead of launch. The story centers on an eerie but affectionate duo—exactly the “strange two” tone she has been hyping in anniversary art and pre-serialization posts.

This is Hashimoto’s return to MagaPoke after Lucciola’s Merchant Travelogue wrapped in early 2025 (later carried in English on K Manga). Western readers still know her best for the insect-apocalypse epic that became Netflix’s Cagaster of an Insect Cage; a lighter romantic comedy from the same pen is a sharp change of pace for the platform’s Friday lineup.

With serialization secured and weekly updates promised, the spider prince and his near-death heroine finally leave the teaser phase behind. MagaPoke readers can start weaving in on September 11.
