In "Tong Tong - You You no Hi no Youjin," the story follows real pandas from Ueno Zoo—Tong Tong, the first giant panda born in captivity in Japan, and her younger brother You You. One day at school, Lion-sensei scolds the pair. Later that night, a candle left burning starts a fire, and the fire brigade arrives to extinguish it. From this event, Tong Tong and You You learn important lessons about fire safety. The next school day, another fire breaks out. Using what they have learned, they immediately dial 119, and the fire brigade arrives in time to rescue their school.
This educational film also commemorates the 20th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China in 1972, a time when pandas were temporarily exchanged between the two nations.
