The animated adaptation finally uncovers the truth behind Hamikuma's origins. Initially, Hamikuma served as the headliner of a traveling circus, drawing massive crowds with his adorable looks and peculiar motions. This fame sparked jealousy among his fellow performers, who worried he would overshadow them. Acting on rumors that Hamikuma was not a genuine bear, the troupe lured him into a large tent one night and sliced open his stomach, only to discover it was empty. To conceal their deed, they ignited the tent, sending both Hamikuma and themselves into the underworld. Upon arriving in that realm, the "Death Bringer," an entity desperate to return to the surface world, possessed Hamikuma's gutted body. This possession granted Hamikuma immortality, allowing him to resurface, though his soul remained trapped below. Now back in the mortal world, Hamikuma has reclaimed the spotlight, yet various mysterious beings continue to dwell within his open belly, waiting for their opportunity to ascend.
