In "Sakura Wars: The Movie," the Imperial Fighting Troupe must once again defend Tokyo against demonic threats. The Douglas-Stewart Company unveils a new, cutting-edge combat machine that could transform Japan's defenses and render the Flower Division obsolete. As their fellow troupe members disappear one by one under mysterious circumstances, the women grow increasingly suspicious. Yet with their unit placed on indefinite suspension, how can they discover the truth and act?

For many years, Sumire Kanzaki was entrusted with protecting the Imperial city as part of the Flower Division. But all eras must eventually end. As the star actress of the Imperial Theatre Company, she provided the energy and radiance that fueled the courage and resolve of her comrades. Her presence ignited the Flower Division's bravery and created countless treasured memories. Now, the stage is set for her final performance, as the once-brilliant star begins to dim. With the decline of one legendary figure, a new one must step into the spotlight.

Sakura Taisen: Sumire is set after the events of the game Sakura Taisen 4: Koiseyo Otome. It was made to celebrate Sumire Kanzaki's voice actress, Michie Tomizawa, retiring from voicing the character in 2002.
