Synopsis

In a distant future, Japan's cities are separated by impassable barriers, with travel and migration heavily restricted. Each district is governed by an AI that follows its own specific blueprint, requiring all residents to perform roles that support the AI's vision. However, some individuals long to break free from their assigned lives and start over in another cluster. During the day, Equa, Ferres, and Martese seem like ordinary high school students, but at night they work as Extractors, illegally helping people move between districts. They assist those brave enough to abandon their pasts and seek new beginnings. As the AI governors grow more watchful of anyone who disrupts their perfect systems, the Extractors' dangerous work becomes even riskier.

Background

Estab-Life: Great Escape is an anime adaptation that is a part of the Estab-Life multimedia project created by Gorou Taniguchi. The series was released on Blu-ray in Japan on September 2, 2022.
