Drifting Home
Ame wo Tsugeru Hyouryuu Danchi
雨を告げる漂流団地
Synopsis
After his grandfather Yasuji passes away, Kousuke Kumagaya drifts apart from his childhood friend, Natsume Tonai. Once inseparable and brought up together in the same apartment building, their relationship sours due to Natsume's lingering attachment to the past, and the scheduled demolition of their old home only worsens the rift. When a rumor spreads that a ghost haunts the abandoned building, Kousuke's friends talk him into exploring the demolition site with them. There, he unexpectedly runs into Natsume arguing over a camera that used to belong to Yasuji. As Natsume runs off with the camera, a sudden downpour floods the area, trapping them on the building's roof. Now stranded on the apartment complex as it drifts across the water, Kousuke and Natsume find themselves cut off from the rest of the world. To make it back home, they must first settle the conflict between them.
Background
The apartment complex where the film is set is modeled after the original designs of the Hibarigaoka Danchi, which was one of the largest housing complexes in Tokyo during its time.
