Synopsis

In 2025, the world descends into chaos when the Kikou, advanced automatons, carry out a catastrophic assault on humanity, inflicting mass destruction and reducing cities to rubble. In the midst of this hopelessness, the remains of a Kikou are discovered in Japan, prompting the creation of the Tokyo Kikou Institute (Toukigen) for the purpose of analyzing the Kikou's technology. The institute embraces the philosophy of "fighting poison with poison," convinced that the only way for humans to survive is to turn the Kikou against its own kind. A full nine years after the initial attack, Toukigen completes the development of a new weapon called the Muttsu, which is nearly ready for actual deployment. The boy Ling Ying Shu and the girl Mukai Yui are selected as pilots of the Muttsu, bearing the hope of humanity's future as they bravely accept their mission. However, a cruel fate awaits them.
