Mighty Space Miners

Synopsis

In the middle of the 21st century, humanity has spread out into space, with the Planet Catcher Corporation leading the way in mining resources from asteroids and comets. On the asteroid Tortatis lives Nanbu Ushiwaka, a 12-year-old who has the unique status of being the only space-born child to have survived past infancy. Their tranquil existence is disrupted when a military satellite causes a catastrophe during a mission to capture Halley's Comet. Abandoned to survive on their own by both the government and the corporation, Ushiwaka and the other colonists struggle to survive. With the asteroid's nuclear reactor on the verge of meltdown, they wonder if they can escape their dire situation or if they will perish among the stars.

Background

It was originally planned for 6 episodes, but ceased production after only 2 were created. The two existing episodes received a VHS release on November 21st, 1995 in both Japanese and English dubs. A DVD featuring both dubs was released on February 25th, 2014. The 4 unproduced episodes were supposed to be called "Atmospheric Entry", "Fascism", "Ominous Halley" and "Toutatis 1B9-6".
