Pompo: The Cinéphile

Synopsis

The manga centers on the craft of filmmaking and follows Joelle Davidovich "Pompo" Pomponette, a gifted movie producer who looks like a small child. Working from the film capital Nyallywood, Pompo has been churning out one B-grade entertainment flick after another that anyone can enjoy. One day, Gene, Pompo's "movie buff" assistant, discovers a new script written by Pompo and is deeply moved by its exquisite story. In a burst of passion, he exclaims, "I want to see this as a finished work in theaters as soon as possible!" However, Pompo tells him, "So you shoot this film." Thus, Gene takes on his first directorial gig. Meanwhile, Natalie, an ordinary girl who just arrived in town with dreams of becoming a movie actress, has been discovered by Pompo.

Background

Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san was set to premiere in 2020, but was delayed to March 19, 2021, due to undisclosed circumstances. The release date was then postponed to June 4, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was nominated for an Annie Award for Best Indie Feature in the 49th Annual Annie Awards.
