The Life of Guskou Budori

Synopsis

The Biography of Budori Gusko received numerous accolades, including the Monbusho Selection. The original novella that inspired the film is one of Kenji Miyazawa's most renowned works, alongside Matasaburo the Wind Imp, Gauche the Cellist, and Night on the Galactic Railroad. The narrative traces the life of a young boy named Gusuko, who resides in the countryside with his parents and little sister. A series of droughts and other natural calamities shatter the family, compelling Gusuko to leave home and seek his fortune alone. Motivated by a wish to enhance the living conditions of his impoverished fellow villagers, he eventually joins a group of scientists known as the Iihatov Volcano Department, where he participates in scientific initiatives to combat the natural disasters that forced him from his home.
