Synopsis
In the wake of a devastating earthquake, Tokyo was rapidly reconstructed with the help of humanoid robots called boomers, which offer cost-efficient labor. The Genom Corporation, the creator of these robots, has amassed enormous wealth and expanded its influence into space. However, recent neural malfunctions have caused some boomers to become aggressive, leading to widespread destruction and loss of life. To combat this, the Advanced Police were established to handle boomer-related incidents. Meanwhile, rumors circulate about a secret team known as the Knight Sabers. Driven by curiosity, the daring Linna Yamazaki travels to Tokyo to meet her idols. There, she encounters Priscilla Asagiri, an enigmatic singer; Sylia Stingray, a sophisticated businesswoman; and Nene Romanova, a lively individual. Each with their own motivations, they unite as tensions escalate, uncovering a deeper conspiracy behind the boomer crisis.

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 was released on DVD by ADV Films from September 12, 2000, to June 5, 2001. Funimation Entertainment rereleased the series in the same format on November 29, 2011.
