A Story of Cigarettes

Synopsis

A girl with a traditional Japanese hairstyle stands before a tiny man on a desk, who tells her that women are descended from tobacco. She laughs at him and traps him under a glass. The angry man puffs on a cigarette in a pipe and blows smoke at her. She takes the cigarette from him and hides it beneath her book. When the man threatens her with a gun, she throws the cigarette into the yard. He becomes furious and tries to shoot her, but the gun fails to fire. In the end, the man begins telling her the story of tobacco's origins. This is the oldest surviving film by Noburou Oofuji, combining paper cutout animation with live-action footage.
