Legend of the Millennium Dragon

Synopsis

While fleeing from a strange creature, middle schooler Jun Tendou takes refuge in a temple. The head priest, Genun, startles him by revealing details about the oni demon he just escaped. Before Jun can process this, Genun unexpectedly transports them both to the Heian period, where the city of Heian-kyo—later known as Kyoto—is under constant assault by the same oni. The nobles of Heian-kyo view Jun as a potential savior due to his unique lineage, which enables him to command the dragon Orochi and harness its immense power to defeat the oni. Yet Jun hesitates to embrace violence and begins to realize that the oni are far more complicated than they first seem.

Background

Onigamiden won the Excellence Award at the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2011. The movie was released on Blu-ray and DVD in North America as Legend of the Millennium Dragon by Sony Pictures Entertainment on October 4, 2011.
