Synopsis

During Tokyo's economic boom in the 1980s, Yoshio Hori takes on work as a day laborer. He moves to Asagaya hoping for an easygoing life, but soon confronts the tough truth of daily survival and falls into severe poverty. As he copes with his situation, he meets a wide range of people from different margins of Japanese society, such as yakuza members, drug users, and alcoholics.
