Synopsis
In the Ainu language, "orushipe" translates to "storytelling," while "suopu" means "this place." Beginning in 2012, the Foundation for Research and Promotion of Ainu Culture (FRPAC) has worked with multiple directors from Studio Rocca to produce yearly short films. These works tell stories closely tied to Ainu culture and traditions, and are shown at museums, schools, and film festivals, most notably at The New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival—which commemorates Hokkaido's 150th anniversary (prior to the Boshin War, this region was called Ezochi and was not officially part of Japan). Roughly one year after their initial screenings, the official YouTube channel offers various audio and subtitle choices for these short films. Additionally, each year's collection of films is also made available on DVD.
