Synopsis
An adaptation of Cixin Liu's novel, which won the Hugo Award in 2015. In 1967, during China's Cultural Revolution, Ye Wenjie watches as Red Guards beat her father to death. This traumatic event will influence not only the course of her own life but also the destiny of all humanity. Forty years later, after a series of inexplicable suicides, the Beijing police recruit nanotech engineer Wang Miao to infiltrate a secret group of scientists. Wang's investigation takes him to a mysterious online game, drawing him into a virtual world governed by the unpredictable and uncontrollable interactions of its three suns. This is the Three-Body Problem, and it holds the answer to everything: the reason behind the scientists' deaths, the key to a conspiracy spanning light-years, and the solution to the extinction-level danger now confronting humanity.
Background
This animation is a direct adaptation from novel Liu Cixin which won Chinese Science Fiction Yinhe ("Galaxy") Award in 2006 and became the first Asian novel ever to win a Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2015 and was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel.
