Their rivalry carries deep personal weight as they are father and son, adding emotional stakes to the professional challenge.

The situation intensifies as a persistent U.S. senator from California and a dedicated Japanese official clash, with additional complications stemming from worries about the long-term impact of pesticide use in farming on both sides of the Pacific.
