Synopsis
Kayoko Sakura no Saku Hi is an anime adaptation of the true story of Kayoko Hayashi, a 15-year-old girl. Following the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, her remains were discovered 21 days later, pinned beneath the wreckage of Shiroyama school, where she had been helping with wartime labor. In remembrance of Kayoko and the other young victims, her mother donated 50 cherry tree saplings to Shiroyama Elementary School. Six of those trees still survive today, standing as a lasting reminder and symbol of world peace.
