Synopsis
Jarinko Chie is a television series that followed a 1981 film directed by Takahata. Based on Etsumi HARUKI's highly popular manga, the story centers on Chie, a ten-year-old girl called "the most unlucky girl in Japan." She runs her family's diner while her unemployed yakuza father and her mother live apart. Despite this grim premise, the show is a lighthearted comedy. Set in Osaka, a city with a culture distinct from Tokyo's, the TV series was created after the film's success, with Takahata serving as the chief director.
