Kanta and the Deer

Synopsis

One day, Kanta, a lonely boy, saves an orphaned baby sika deer and names it Poyu. Poyu possesses something unique: a golden tail. When hunters set their sights on Poyu, Kanta becomes resolute in protecting his golden-tailed companion and the rest of the deer herd. Adapted from the children's novel of the same name by Daisaku Ikeda with illustrations by Sho Murakami, the story recounts the tragic history of sika deer overhunting by humans while celebrating the bond between these animals and children.
