Synopsis

Sony has introduced the "Kawamori Edition" of its newest "wena wrist" smartwatch, a collaboration with renowned Macross anime director and mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori. To celebrate the launch, an anime advertisement was created, showcasing an aircraft that closely resembles the forward-swept-wing YF-19/VF-19 variable fighter from Macross Plus and Macross 7. However, the design also incorporates features reminiscent of real fighter jets, including canards similar to those on European combat aircraft and an intake akin to the F-16. The promotional footage includes the iconic gesture of hands forming the shape of a fighter jet, a signature element first seen in Macross Plus. Kawamori also personally designed the case that will accompany the Wena Wrist product. The watch features a mechanical design inspired by pilot watches, with a dial that imitates the artificial horizon found in fighter aircraft cockpits. One side of the watch includes an open-heart design that exposes the internal mechanism. A white arrow at the 12 o'clock position functions as the hour hand, a classic trait common in many pilot watches.
