Blue Giant

Synopsis

Since first discovering jazz, Dai Miyamoto has set his sights on becoming the world's greatest jazz saxophonist. After just three years of playing, he decides to relocate to Tokyo to chase his musical dreams. While performing at a local venue, Dai encounters Yukinori Sawabe, a pianist who shares his deep passion for music. Despite Dai's limited experience, Yukinori—trained in classical music—initially hesitates to work together. Yet, moved by Dai's raw talent, he eventually agrees to join him. Adding Shunji Tamada, who has even less experience than Dai, to their lineup, the three form JASS—a band with a distinctive style ready to breathe new life into the stagnant jazz scene.

Background

Blue Giant won the Best Music Award at the 47th Japan Academy Film Prizes in 2024. The film was released on Blu-ray in North America by Shout! Factory on April 30, 2024.
