Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom

Synopsis

The Gold Kingdom and the Water Kingdom share a long, bitter history of epic warfare, which eventually drove them to the extreme solution of building a wall between their lands. A hundred years later, the two nations finally honor an old agreement in hopes of securing lasting stability. The rulers on both sides decide that the Gold Kingdom will offer its most beautiful maiden as a bride for the Water Kingdom's most brilliant man—a marriage meant to forge not only a couple, but a promise of renewed relations and enduring peace. When the time arrives for the rulers to uphold their end of the bargain, neither side proves entirely sincere or honorable in its selection. The Gold Kingdom offers Sara, a kind-hearted but plain-looking princess, while the Water Kingdom sends Naranbayar, a lanky scholar of humble origins. To add insult to injury, the two are each saddled with an animal as their would-be partner—Sara with a dog, and Naranbayar with a cat. As Sara and Naranbayar separately navigate the palace intrigues of their respective homelands, their paths soon converge in a heartwarming new twist on the classic fairy-tale setup.
