Synopsis

This anthology gathers four folk tales from Koshiji, an area that has been part of Nagaoka since 2005, located in Niigata Prefecture, formerly known as Echigo. Episode 1: The Azuki Mochi and the Frog An old woman warns her daughter-in-law that if she eats an azuki mochi, it will turn into a frog. Overhearing this threat, the daughter-in-law... Episode 2: Satori A woodcutter warms himself by a fire made of deadwood when a spirit shaped like an eyeball appears. This being accurately reads every thought passing through the woodcutter's mind... Episode 3: The Fox's Lantern Lost in the darkness, an elderly man discovers an intricately crafted lantern left behind by a fox spirit. The next day, though reluctant, he returns it—only to witness... Episode 4: The Three Paper Charms A young apprentice priest loses his way and accidentally takes shelter in the hut of a mountain witch. To escape being eaten, he uses three paper charms to guide himself back to the temple...
