Munto 2: Beyond the Walls of Time

Synopsis

Continues the story of Munto

Above the human realm, the Heavens are made up of floating island nations powered by the divine magic of their inhabitants, which relies on a mystical energy called Akuto. As Akuto runs low, most of the Heavens' kingdoms have agreed to conserve the remaining supply. But the Magical Kingdom, under its leader the Magical King Munto, defies this agreement. Convinced that a journey to Earth to meet a specific girl—as foretold by a seer—will restore their energy, Munto embarks on a dangerous quest. Meanwhile, various celestial factions plot to destroy the Magical Kingdom and seize the remaining Akuto for themselves. On Earth, Yumemi Hidaka struggles with her ability to see the floating islands in the sky, a condition that makes her feel isolated even though her best friend Ichiko Ono supports her. Yumemi fears she might be losing her mind until Munto appears before her, initially dismissed as a hallucination. She also notices her friend Suzume Imamura's plan to run away with her rebellious boyfriend. As the Magical Kingdom faces collapse, Munto makes increasingly desperate attempts to save both the Heavens and Earth.

In this installment

Two years have passed since the catastrophic event known as the "Continent's Dropping" from the first OVA. Yumemi still remembers her ability to see the world above, but now she is in her final years of middle school, and exams and everyday life consume her attention. Unknown to the people on Earth, the world of Akuto still exists, yet its war continues without end. Needing assistance, Gaz sends Munto down to Earth once more to locate the "Girl of Destiny" and prevent Heaven's ultimate destruction. Yumemi must once again confront the world only she can see, and not even her friends Ichiko and Suzune are able to help her.
