Synopsis
In "King of Thorn," a lethal virus called Medousa spreads worldwide, turning people to stone with no known cure, pushing humanity to the brink of extinction. The only hope lies in Venus Gate Corporation's bold initiative: placing 160 individuals into deep cryogenic stasis for up to a century, awaiting a potential remedy. Among those chosen is Kasumi Ishiki, who is deeply distressed by the thought of being separated from her twin sister, Shizuku. Despite her anxiety, they cling to the hope of eventual reunion. When Kasumi awakens, reality is nothing like she expected. The cryo-facility is overrun with thorny vines, and monstrous creatures threaten the few survivors. Most of the awakened are lost to the chaos, but Kasumi endures alongside a handful of others. Together, they navigate the labyrinthine facility, determined to uncover the truth behind the Medousa virus and expose Venus Gate Corporation's hidden motives.
Background
Ibara no Ou was released on Blu-ray and DVD in North America as King of Thorn by Funimation Entertainment on September 18, 2012. The company republished the movie on Blu-ray on May 19, 2020.
