Attacker You!

Synopsis

Attacker You! centers on You Hazuki, a spirited and driven 13-year-old junior high schooler from Osaka who relocates to Tokyo after her father Toshihiko, a cameraman back from Peru, brings the family together. You's mother left when she was very young, leaving You to look after her devoted younger brother Sunny, who shadows her everywhere—even to school and volleyball practice. You is also intrigued by Kyushi Tajima, a blonde TV announcer covering volleyball games, and confused by her father's anger whenever the woman's name comes up. With a burning passion for volleyball, You dreams of representing Japan at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She joins her school's girls' team and rises quickly to the top, though her coach, who also serves as her homeroom teacher, is harsh and physically strikes players who fail to meet his standards. Her relationship with Nami Hayase (known as "Peggy" in the French version), a former school champion turned bitter rival, is rocky from the start, and things reach a breaking point when the two girls sign with opposing professional clubs. Meanwhile, You develops feelings for So Takiki (renamed "Shiro," "Serge," or "Sergio" in different Western adaptations), the captain of Hikawa's boys' volleyball team, and pours as much energy into winning his heart as she does into perfecting her game.
