Synopsis
In a quiet corner of the city, four-year-old Kun Oota leads a pampered life, always the center of his parents' attention along with their dog, Yukko. Everything changes when his newborn sister, Mirai, arrives, redirecting the focus away from him. Despite his tantrums and protests, all the love and care now seem reserved for Mirai. To help him adjust to this major upheaval, Kun embarks on an extraordinary time-traveling adventure, meeting different versions of his family members from various eras. Through these encounters, he learns the true meaning of family and what it means to become a big brother.
Background
The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, Best Animated Feature at the 24th Critics' Choice Awards and Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards. It is the sixth anime film, and the first non-Ghibli anime film, to receive an Academy Award nomination in the category. The film also won Best Animated Feature — Independent at the 46th Annie Awards.
