Synopsis
In the year 2041, the catastrophic collision of the Freeport Space Station with Earth's atmosphere triggered the "Great Cataclysm," devastating the planet and leaving it heavily polluted. Chaos ensued, and wars over dwindling resources nearly wiped out humanity. However, life endured on a lunar base originally built as a stopover for a Mars mission, which later evolved into a self-sustaining metropolis called "The City of Eden." This moon colony held the ambition of establishing a full-scale settlement on the lunar surface. Come 2267, Takeru, a resident of Eden, participates in "Tube Races"—high-stakes competitions using hovercraft-like vehicles contested by various gangs. After an incident during one of these races, Takeru is sentenced to community service outside the city limits. While fulfilling this duty, he discovers artifacts that might reveal the hidden truths behind Earth's downfall and the creation of Eden.
Background
Freedom was a promotional project to celebrate Nissin Cup Noodles for their 35th anniversary in 2006. The cup noodles are featured prominently throughout the series.
