Synopsis

Exploring the nature of happiness is a pastime for high school student Ritsu Shikishima, a psychology enthusiast who typically spends calm moments with his friends. His peaceful existence takes a grim twist when he overhears a mysterious voice through static, urgently calling for aid. The voice belongs to μ, a popular idol whose songs are now distorting reality. As Ritsu watches, the people close to him start to flicker and transform into Digiheads—savage monsters that aim to eliminate anyone who realizes their true predicament. Ritsu learns that he is imprisoned inside a simulated reality called Mobius, created by μ. To survive, he must locate other individuals who have also awakened to the truth and unite before they are erased as well. Working together, they unlock abilities and weapons born from their emotions, referred to as the Catharsis Effect, to confront the mysterious Ostinato Musicians and break free from the simulation.
