Synopsis
Keiichi Tanaami's new animated piece, Red Shade (2021), originates from paintings he created with the intention of animating them. Each of the 80 chosen scenes was assigned its own distinct motion, and the assembled version of the final product became the initial film. These 80 scenes are each individually complete and can be reordered freely. For instance, one could start with scene 80 and conclude with scene one, or arrange them in a non-sequential pattern like 1, 4, 8, 7, and so forth. In essence, the work's core remains unchanged regardless of the scene arrangement. Nonetheless, a strong impact can still be achieved by swapping the images for each frame, and it is also possible, for example, to evoke the sensation of a gentle breeze sweeping through verdant meadows.
