Synopsis
The word "KiyaKiya" originates from the old Japanese phrase "mune ga kiyakiya suru." I first came across it in Shibusawa Tatsuhiko's book *Introductory Essays on Girls*, specifically in the chapter about "childhood experiences." This expression, which conveys "an enigmatic, nostalgic, disturbing feeling" or a sense of "deja-vu," serves as the foundation for my "KiyaKiya" series. In our daily lives, there are instances where we suddenly perceive something as different; this unexpected shift, much like in my own memory, seems to carry its own kind of reality. This sensation lies at the heart of "KiyaKiya" and the accompanying painting and drawing series.
