From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

Synopsis

For twenty years, Beryl Gardenant has operated his father's sword dojo in a remote village, training numerous disciples. While many of his students have become celebrated swordsmen, Beryl remains modest, often calling himself an old man. His former pupils, especially Allucia Citrus—who completed her training over a decade ago and now leads the Royal Order of Knights—disagree with this self-assessment. Seeking recognition for her esteemed mentor's abilities, Allucia persuades her superiors to appoint Beryl as a special instructor at the Order through an imperial decree. She personally informs Beryl of his new position, though he remains unaware of her true intentions. Reluctantly, and under pressure from his elderly parents, Beryl accepts and moves to the capital. There, he reunites with other former students, including Surena Lysandra, a black-ranked adventurer, and Ficelle Harbeller, a key figure in the Magic Corps. Word quickly spreads that even the most powerful warriors cannot stand up to the "country bumpkin."

Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru aired on TV Asahi's IMAnimation block. The series was released on Blu-ray in two volumes from December 3, 2025, to January 9, 2026.
