Synopsis
Kongjui lived alone with her father until he remarried and brought home a new wife and a stepsister named Patchui. While her father was away, the stepmother and Patchui made Kongjui do all the housework; the stepmother believed every lie Patchui told, which led to Kongjui suffering brutal beatings. When a marriage proposal between Kongjui and a prominent family's son was suggested, the stepmother plotted to have Patchui wed the young man instead. Unaware of the scheme against her, Kongjui met the young man in the woods, and they developed a romantic connection.
