In year 193, Guo Jia recommended a harsh military approach of wiping out an entire city to awe the surrounding regions, which led Cao Cao to strike Xuzhou, claiming it was to avenge his father's murder. Records mention that the resulting bloodbath took hundreds of thousands of lives. Disguised as Zhao Yun, Huo Feng Liao Yuan organized Xuzhou's inhabitants to offer a tenacious defense, cleverly outmaneuvering Cao Cao's forces and secretly persuading Liu Bei to join them. At the same time, Lu Bu, based in Chenliu, carried out a surprise attack on Cao Cao's army following his strategist Chen Gong's suggestion. The emergence of Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi in Xuzhou amplified the conflict. The Battle of Xuzhou featured fierce engagements between notable fighters like Lu Bu, Xu Chu, Dian Wei, and Zhao Yun, creating a ripple effect across the land. After the battle, Xuzhou's circumstances experienced a major transformation. Cao Cao then turned his attention to a strong northern rival, setting up a high-stakes strategic battle that would shape the future of the world.
