Stellvia

Synopsis

In 2167, a radiation wave from the supernova of Hydrus Beta devastated Earth, resulting in numerous casualties. By 2356, humanity has united to rebuild and prepare for the anticipated second wave of destruction. To safeguard the planet, massive space colonies called Foundations have been constructed throughout the Solar System, serving as hubs for education and exploration. Among these is Stellvia, where Shima Katase enrolls as a preparatory student despite her mother's objections, motivated by her longing to experience space firsthand. At Stellvia, she undergoes rigorous training to become a pilot, aiming to be chosen for the Great Mission intended to protect Earth from the impending disaster. Through her struggles with flight training and managing complex social interactions, Shima grows into a leader capable of defending humanity.

Background

Uchuu no Stellvia was released on DVD by Geneon Entertainment in eight volumes from September 21, 2004 to December 13, 2005. Following the closing of Geneon Entertainment in 2007, Discotek Media announced they had licensed the anime in 2018, re-releasing Uchuu no Stellvia on Blu-ray on September 25, 2018. Two video games based on and named after the series were released. The first was published by Bandai Namco Entertainment on January 22, 2004 for the PlayStation 2. The second was released by King Records on April 23, 2004 for the Game Boy Advance.
