Hikoichi's Wits

Synopsis

Hikoichi and Osato are selling their harvested watermelons in front of the castle when they encounter a chief counselor named Chuemon. Chuemon is at a loss because a messenger from a neighboring country has presented him with an unreasonable demand, and he is seeking a wise and intelligent person to assist him. Hikoichi agrees to help on the condition that Chuemon buys all the watermelons if Hikoichi succeeds in a battle of wits. Using his cleverness and unconventional methods, Hikoichi turns seemingly impossible problems into solvable ones. This drama unfolds rhythmically, driven by wisdom and courage. This film won the Gold Award at the Tokyo Educational Film Competition.
