Synopsis
Suzu Urano, a gentle and naive young woman with a talent for drawing, spends her childhood helping her grandmother run their family's seaweed business on the outskirts of Hiroshima. As she grows older, Suzu begins a new chapter by marrying Shuusaku Houjou, a man she does not know, and moves into his home. Adapting to her new surroundings proves difficult for the homesick Suzu as Japan's involvement in World War II intensifies. With the war encroaching on her community, turning peace into chaos, Suzu must find ways to endure and support those around her. In "Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni," a touching and realistic portrayal of daily life in wartime Japan emerges, highlighting the perseverance and strength of ordinary citizens during a devastating period in history.

Winner of the 40th Japan Academy Award for Best Animation Award, the 90th Kinema Junpo Best Ten Japan Film Best 1 and Director Award, 71st Mainichi Film Concurs Japanese Movie Excellence Award and Ofuji Nobushiro Prize, 59th Blue Ribbon Award Director Award, Hiroshima Peace Film Award during the 3rd Hiroshima International Film Festival, and the Best Film during the 38th Yokohama Film Festival. It also won the Grand Prize Award on the 21st Japan Media Arts Festival.
