Shine On! Bakumatsu Bad Boys

Synopsis

Following the near-destruction of the Shinsengumi's Eighth Division by the Masked Demons, a notorious group of imperialist criminals, Heisuke Toudou, the only survivor, finds himself gravely injured. Feudal lord Katamori Matsudaira urges him to reconstitute the unit. Toudou proposes to eight convicts that they take the place of the eight lost captains as a means of redemption. All accept except one, who is promptly killed by Sakuya, a former assassin. Toudou then faces the challenge of transforming the remaining seven prisoners into trustworthy soldiers. Among them, Ichibanboshi, driven by vengeance after his family was murdered by the Masked Demons, poses a significant threat to the mission due to his reckless and undisciplined nature. As Toudou pledges to protect the shogunate against imperialists and foreign threats, other factions, including Kogorou Katsura's group, start planning to exploit the power vacuum emerging at the end of the Edo era.

Background

In celebration of Bucchigire!'s premiere, Tokyo Tower held a collaborative event between July 8, 2022, and August 21, 2022. The series was released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan on October 26, 2022.
